The Family Department

Atkinson & Firth has a thriving family department headed up by two partners Fiona Hedar and Angela Brocklehurst.

The department provides a comprehensive service to all clients who are experiencing family difficulties. All members of the family team understand that all families are different and our approach is sympathetic, understanding and tailored to individual need.

Members of the team recognise that confrontation is not always the best way to achieve our clients aims. Whether the dispute is about financial matters or children we promote negotiation as the key to a successful outcome.

Responding to the complexities of this area our two family partners specialise in different types of family dispute:

Separation Divorce and Finance

Angela Brocklehurst has 25 years experience as a family lawyer. She joined Atkinson & Firth in 1998 as a Member of the Solicitors Family Law Association which has now been renamed Resolution. She encourages a negotiated non-confrontational approach and has recently qualified as a collaborative lawyer. In addition to her work within the firm she is a trustee of the Bradford Family Mediation Service and a past president of the Bradford Law Society. Angela also represents Bradford family solicitors on the local Family Proceedings Court User Committee.

Children

Fiona has 30 years experience as a family lawyer and joined Atkinson & Firth over 20 years ago. She has been a member of the Law Society Children Panel since it was first established in the early 1980’s. As such she is able to accept instructions to act for children and their parents in proceedings brought by the local authority in cases of child neglect and abuse. In addition she advises and represents parents who are involved in disputes about their children’s welfare as a result of family breakdown.

Both partners are supported by specialist solicitors and by a bank of secretaries all of whom are able to communicate with clients with clarity and understanding.

All of our clients come to us at times of great distress in their lives. As a department we recognise that distress and seek to provide timely, sensitive and cost effective advice to clients whose lives are in turmoil.
